FAQ

Welcome to the Latin Groove FAQ! You’ll find answers here to the most common questions about our dance classes in Montreal and Brossard, including schedules, pricing, class levels, access options, and private lessons.Whether you’re taking your very first steps or looking to grow and feel more confident on the dance floor, this guide is here to help you feel informed, comfortable, and ready to get started.

If you’ve already taken classes, you may not need to start at the Intro level. We offer free level evaluations at both Montreal and Brossard studios to make sure you’re placed in the right class for your experience.

Yes. You can begin at any point during the year.

If you are completely new to dance, many people prefer starting closer to the beginning of a learning cycle, as it can feel more comfortable when discovering the basics.
If you already have some dance experience, you can jump in at any time without any issue.

Activities are offered year-round, so there is always an opportunity to start, continue, or come back whenever it suits you.

If you are new to Latin Groove and have danced before, we can help you find the level that fits you best.

We offer a short orientation assessment that looks at your comfort level, movement, and overall experience so we can guide you toward the most suitable options.
For new participants, this assessment is available for 10 $, and the amount is credited toward any access package purchased the same day.

Assessments are available on weeknights between 5 pm and 9 pm. Simply stop by the reception desk when you arrive, and our team will assist you before the assessment begins.

If you are already part of the Latin Groove community, individual assessments are included with your access and can be done during the same evening time window.

Throughout the year, instructors also provide ongoing guidance during activities to help you feel comfortable and confident as you continue your dance journey. The goal is always to make sure you feel well placed and supported as you progress at your own pace.

That’s completely normal, and many dancers feel this way at some point.

If you are dancing about once a week, that usually means roughly one hour of movement during that time. Like any physical activity, progress comes with repetition and consistency. The more often you move, review what you’ve learned, and spend time on the dance floor, the more comfortable and confident everything starts to feel.

Many participants find it helpful to:

  • practice a little on their own during the week

  • revisit movements explored during activities

  • spend additional time dancing to build muscle memory

Our lounge area is available during opening hours, giving you a relaxed space to practice and move at your own pace.

If you would like more personalized guidance or want to focus on specific goals, one-on-one private lessons are also available with a choice of instructors. This option allows you to receive individualized attention and move forward more quickly, based on what you want to work on.

Everyone progresses differently. The most important thing is to stay consistent, enjoy the process, and choose the rhythm that works best for you.

Latin Groove offers a wide variety of dance and movement activities, with options for every style, energy level, and interest.

You’ll find a strong selection of Latin dance activities, including salsa, bachata, cha-cha-cha, merengue, cumbia, and more.
We also offer international and world dance activities such as semba, kizomba, reggaeton, tango, and ballroom.

For those who enjoy focusing on technique and expression, we offer specialized movement experiences such as styling, turns, footwork, shines, musicality, and jazz-inspired movement.
If your goal is to stay active and feel good, we also offer fitness and wellness activities, including Zumba.

All activities are available year-round, allowing you to explore different styles and choose what best fits your interests and your rhythm.

There’s no single right answer. It really depends on what excites you and makes you want to move.

Many people find merengue to be one of the easiest dances to start with, thanks to its simple rhythm and upbeat feel. That said, all of our classes are designed with beginners in mind, so even if you’ve never danced before, you can confidently take your first steps with us in any style that interests you.

You don’t need to start with one dance before another. We’ve seen brand-new dancers explore two or even three different styles at the same time and do wonderfully.

What truly makes the difference is the time and consistency you give it. Choose the dances you enjoy, stay curious, and allow yourself the space to practice and grow. The rest will follow naturally.

Absolutely not. Dance has no age limit.

At Latin Groove, we welcome dancers of all ages. Our community includes participants as young as 3 years old and as experienced as 99, and everyone in between. What matters most is your curiosity, your energy, and your desire to move.

No matter your age, it’s never too early or too late to start dancing.

Not at all! Many students come solo. We rotate partners during class, so everyone gets a chance to dance with different people.

Partner switching is always optional.

Many classes include the option to switch partners, as it can be a fun way to practice with different people and improve connection and adaptability. That said, you are never required to switch if you prefer to stay with the same partner.

You are welcome to choose what feels most comfortable for you. Our priority is to create a positive, respectful, and enjoyable environment where everyone can learn and dance at their own pace.

Depending on the dance style, access level, and time of day, group activities typically include between 10 and 45 participants.

You’re welcome to reserve ahead of time, or you can also arrive and scan your access card at the studio entrance. Both options are available.

Reserving in advance is a great way to secure your spot and plan your visit, but if you prefer to come in spontaneously, you can do that too, as long as space is available. Our goal is to keep things flexible and easy so you can dance when it works best for you.

Our pricing varies depending on the type of access you choose.

We offer a range of options, from introductory offers to flexible access packages, allowing you to choose what best fits your schedule, your goals, and your budget.

We invite you to visit our pricing and promotions page for full details and current offers.

Dance shoes are the best option to start with, as they are designed specifically for dancing and allow you to move comfortably and confidently.

Dance shoes fit the foot closely and have soles that provide the right balance of grip and glide. This helps you turn, step, and move more freely without feeling restricted. Many dancers notice a big difference as soon as they try them.

For hygiene and safety reasons, street shoes are not permitted in the studios. Running shoes, boots, and flip-flops are also not recommended, as they can limit movement and make dancing less comfortable.

If you’re interested in dance shoes, we offer ProDanceShoes in our studios. You’re welcome to try a pair and feel the difference for yourself.

No worries. Missing a class happens sometimes, and there are easy ways to stay on track.

You can choose to join another class during the same week, depending on availability, to keep moving and practicing.
If you’d like more personalized support, one-on-one private lessons are also available with our experienced instructors. This can be a great way to review what you missed or focus on specific movements.

Our goal is to keep things flexible and supportive, so you can continue dancing with confidence, even if your schedule changes.

Our activities are offered 7 days per week. Please consult our schedule page for full availability. Private coaching appointments can also be reserved outside of our regular hours.

Yes. We offer several ways to practice and enjoy dancing outside of classes.
