You are here:

I have a partner for the classes. Will I dance with him/her or will I be asked to switch partners?

You can only dance with your partner if you choose, but we strongly suggest that you switch partners during the class. This way you will advance a lot faster. If you dance with the same person, you tend to adapt to their mistakes and follow a wrong lead. Also you tend to be more lenient and will let the mistakes go easier. If you dance with a stranger, you will have no choice but to lead properly and follow properly. It ends up being your choice. What happens regularly is that some couples don’t switch and then want to retake the class and decide to switch. They then see the difference and learn faster.

I’m not advancing fast enough, how can I speed up the process?

If you are taking only 1 class a week, that is only 1 hour a week. That is definately not enough. We strongly suggest that you practice in-between classes. The more you practice the more you learn. If you want to advance even faster, we offer private classes with a choice of teachers. Ranging from 45$/hour – 60$/hour. We also have what we call the “ALL PASS”. This is a V.I.P. pass than gives you access to all our classes within your level. Even if our classes are full this pass still gives you access. If you are persistent, you will learn.

When can I register for the next session?

We take registrations for 2 weeks for the current session, so you can register for the next session 4 weeks before the beginning of the following session. Example, The current session starts October 8th and we take registration until October 21st. As of October 22nd, you will be able to register for November 19th session.

If you have a partner, thats great because you can practice with them, but if you don’t it’s just fine because 80% of the people who join our group classes don’t have a partner. We make sure that everyone has a partner to dance with during the classes. It does happen that we are not even men to women. In that case we ask higher level students to step in and help the class.

Now this question is relative to many factors. Do you practice often? Do you listen to the music often? Are you doing this because you want to or is someone pushing you into this? And yes, for some people it is easier, now that doesn’t mean you’ll never dance. Everyone has it in them. Practice makes perfect! Since our night-club is opened to the public nightly after 9pm, everyone meets there to practice. Once you start you can’t stop. We have students dancing every night. Don’t be intimidated with the higher level students, They all started at level 1. Everyone dances with everyone. Thats the best way to learn.

The easiest dance we teach is the merengue, the next is the bachata. It doesn’t mean you should start with one then the other. I’ve seen people who never danced before take 3 dances and excel at them all. You just need to practice.

Simply because we’ve been teaching Montrealers for over 20 years now. If our calculations are correct, we’ve taught about 100,000 students through the years. We’ve been told that we are patient and that our classes feel more like a party than a class room. Dancing is supposed to be fun. We make sure everyone that walks in leaves with a smile on their face and their feet tingling!

Our sessions run 6 weeks consecutively. If you missed the beginning of a session, we can allow you to start on the 2nd class, but if you’ve missed more than 2 classes, we suggest you wait until the next session or take a make up lesson.

This is a great way to meet people, it’s fun, it keeps the body fit, it keeps the mind happy and its a great way to express yourself. At least now you’ll go on vacation and you’ll be able to dance like the locals! No need for a partner as we switch partners very often during the classes. No need to have any dancing experience as we start from the very beginning.

Definitely not! Dance has no limits, but since we are located in a night-club where there is a liquer permit, no-one under 18 is permitted.

Hi Groovers,

I am having so much fun with all my students. There are so many different and interesting personalities that I’ve come across. You all make my day and I love going to work. See you all in class, oh and practice please!

What is Samba?

The samba we teach at Latin groove is the spicy brazilian Samba. Here’s a definition from WIKIPEDIA, the free encyclopedia.

Samba is a lively, rhythmical dance of Brazilian origin in 2/4 time danced under the Samba music. However, there are three steps to every bar, making the Samba feel like a 3/4 timed dance. Its origins include the Maxixe The Samba music rhythm has been danced in Brazil since its inception in the late 19th century. There is actually a set of dances, rather than a single dance, that define the Samba dancing scene in Brazil; thus, no one dance can be claimed with certainty as the “original” Samba style. Another major stream of the Samba dance besides the Brazilian Samba dancing styles is Ballroom Samba which differs significantly.

Do I need special shoes or clothing?

Dance shoes are preferable. They allow you to do your steps and turns effortlessly. Regular shoes tend to stick to the floor so adding stress and fatigue to your ankles and knees. We have special dance shoes for sale at our dance school at a special price for all our students. For clothing we suggest regular comfortable clothing.

Does the “All pass” apply even when the classes are full?

The “All pass” is a V.I.P pass that gives you access to all the classes of your level during the 6 weeks session for 150$. Even if the class says it’s full, this pass will give you access to the class of your choice. (your level) This pass can not be combined with any promotion nor does it apply to any other promotion or coupon.

Do you have practice nights? When can we practice?

As of 9pm the school becomes a nightclub. The club has been in existance for the past 27 years. Its one on montreal’s well known latin clubs, CLUB 649. We are opened 7 nights a week from 9pm-3am. There are always people to practice with. Just keep in mind that everyone once started at level 1 so please don’t be intimidated with higher level students. See you there.

How do I know what level I am?

We have 2 different levels of bachata and 5 levels in Salsa. If you’d like to be evaluated, our teachers can evaluate you and place you in the appropriate level. We are there from Mondays- Thursdays from 5:30pm-11pm. It takes only a few minutes and you will dance with a teacher for this process. Please bring appropriate shoes and comfortable clothing.

Hi everyone, just to let you know, yes we are opened on good Friday and Easter Monday. Im getting flooded with calls asking, so, yes, we are teaching. If people decide not to show up, it’s ok, they’ll just have to practice to catch up to all who did come. Now get on your feet and practice! 😉

See you all in class.
